Academic Transfer

The Transition to UNL

Important Information Regarding Scholarships and Financial Aid for Transfer Students

Scholarships

Transfer students are considered for scholarships separately from freshmen and currently enrolled students. Specific scholarship information and application procedures for transfer students are outlined by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at http://www.unl.edu/scholfa/transfer_students.shtml. It is not necessary for an incoming transfer student to complete the Upperclass Scholarship Application.

Financial Aid - Satisfactory Academic Progress

To receive Title IV federal aid, you must be making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree. For transfer students, all academic credit being transferred to UNL (regardless of whether the credit is accepted for your degree program) is included in the calculation of Full Semester Equivalents. The total number of credits transferred to UNL is divided by 14 to determine transfer Full Semester Equivalents and, ultimately, the remaining number of semesters of eligibility at UNL.

Example: A student who is transferring 56 semester credit hours to UNL is considered to have four (4) Full Semester Equivalents from transfer hours (56 credits divided by 14 = 4). The undergraduate student in this example would have eight semesters of financial aid eligibility remaining, provided he or she is meeting other guidelines applicable to this policy.
